Gandai Shiva Temple, Rajnandgaon

Gandai Shiva temple is in the Gandai village of Rajanandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. The temple was constructed in the Kalachuri period of the 13th-14th century CE.

The shikhara is based on the tri-ratha plan. It has seventeen bhumis. The temple has carvings on the shikhara. The garbhagrha doorway is built with three bands. At the bottom, there are river goddesses without their mounts accompanied by Shaiva dvarapalas. The lintel has Lord Shiva-Ardhanareeshvara in the central niche. Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Lakshmi are found in terminal niches. Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha are present below the door jambs. There are sculptures of musicians and dancers in the center. Inside the sanctum, a king with his two queens seated in Anjali mudra and Goddess Lakshmi-Lord Narayana seated over Garuda can be found.
